My Best Friend Abroad

My best friend is studying abroad for the first 3-4 months this semester and I miss her so much. So, Kate, I’m just popping in to say hey and write this to you in case you ever need a little pick me up when you need it.

First, I just wanna say that we miss our other buddy. Hanging out isn’t the same without you, but we know you’re having the best time in Italy. You’ve also successfully made me the last of the trio to go to Europe.

You are one of the strongest people I know, and I hope you’re coming to realize this. You deserve to be happy, you deserve to be so happy your cheeks hurt from smiling. I am so happy for you. You did it, you made it on that plane and you started a new, positive chapter in your life.

You mean the world to me, and I get so excited for you when you tell us about your days and nights and show us pictures. You have no idea how much we miss you, but also how happy we are for you.

I hope you’re having the time of your life. I hope you’re making memories and friends from all over. I hope you don’t get discouraged, or lost (pls). I hope you step out of your comfort zone and come home with the craziest stories to tell Gracie and me. I hope you’re strutting down the streets of Rome in that new wardrobe you so spent too much money on. I hope you’re growing more and more every day.

Most importantly, I hope you’re starting to feel genuinely happy. We are always here for you. You are beautiful, smart, and we know you’ll kick some serious butt. Keep having fun, but stay focused when it comes to school. Also, please be safe.

Can’t wait for you to finally be home. Also, can’t wait for our puppy to come!!!!

A Note to...

Hey there foundation. You’re cool and all, but boy oh boy do you cause a lot of frustration. Since there are a million types of you, I’ll stick to talking about Matte and Dewy finishes.

Matte Foundation: you suck. At least you did for me because I have dry skin. (p.s. if you have dry skin, do not use matte foundation!)  Matte foundation ends up looking cakey and you’ll have dry patches.

Dewy Foundation: you’re amazing. At first, I didn’t want to try you because I thought matte was the way to go. I was proven wrong. I’m in love with a dewy look, and I’m sure that will show in coming posts.

I love that you range in shades and coverage. Mostly I prefer the medium-to-full coverage foundations, but lots of foundations have buildable coverage. I guess I like that about you too.

My favorites include Maybelline Fit Me Dewy Foundation, Too Faced Born This Way, Sonia Kashuk Perfecting Luminous Foundation, and the new Maybelline Dream Cushion Foundation. All of these just seemed to work for me. I definitely steer clear from the matte foundations, but that doesn’t mean I still don’t look around when I’m shopping! Before I realized what my skin-type was, I loved the Rimmel 24-hour lasting, the Fit Me Matte, and the Neutrogena Matte.

Regardless of likes and dislikes, you’re definitely the key to every look. Once the skin-type and shade problems are solved, usually it’s smooth sailing from there.

Dearest concealer,

I used to only use you on my face in the morning before school. I knew nothing about you, and it was that way for many years. Soon, you went from my favorite to my least favorite part of the process.

I’m sure you heard of “baking”? It’s when you set your under eye concealer with translucent powder and leave the translucent powder on for a few minutes, like while you do your brows or finishing your eyeshadow. After a few minutes, you wipe off the excess powder to reveal creaseless under eyes.

Well here’s my problem with you, concealer: why does it take forever to find your favorite concealer that works wonders for you?

I’ve gone through so many different brands and I still think there’s a better one out there. (Send me some suggestions if you want!) My favorites definitely include Urban Decay NAKED Skin Concealer, Maybelline Fit Me Concealer, Tarte Shape Tape Concealer, and NARS Creamy Concealer.

So I have a love-hate relationship with you, concealer. Sometimes you’re great, and sometimes you’re a real pain in the butt.
